Judi Goodwin :

I am a retired school teacher who is enjoying my retirement doing what I love best, "living the
dream"; and painting whenever I can. Firstly using acrylics, I branched out to watercolour and
recently studied oil painting at a residential art school in Portugal, to add to my repertoire.
Colour amazes me and I use bright eye-catching colours in my paintings, with lots of texture,
using varied subject matter and medium. I recently ventured into abstract painting and am now
developing a passion for abstracts.
I am a member of Kiama Art Society, Shoalhaven Art Society, Red Point Art Society, , Milton
Art Society, and IIllawarra Craft and Art Network. I am a regular exhibitor at the Imaginarium
Shellharbour Village , Thirroul Seaside and Arts Festival, Old Kiama Fire Station, Shoalhaven
Art Gallery, Berry School of Arts, One88 Katoomba, Magic Touch Gallery Warilla , Bowral
District Art Gallery, School of Arts Narooma, Callala Bay Art Gallery, Millhouse Milton and
Wollongong Old Court House. My paintings have hung in Samuel’s Restaurant and Bar
Thirroul, Stocklands Shellharbour, Ablaze Restaurant and Bar, Nowra, Muir House Gallery in
Berry, Project Contemporary Art Space and Ten Thousand Paces in Bowral.
I have had my own galleries, one in Windang (Art in the Dang) and the other in Port Kembla
(Art $ Soul )for 3 years but I had to close them due to Covid. I love exhibiting my work and
sharing my love of art. I began studying Art at High School where I chose Art as one of my
electives. I specialised in Creative Arts at Wollongong University while I was studying for my
Diploma of Teaching. While teaching Primary School students for 42 years, I shared my love of
art and my talents with my pupils, many who have gone on to be artists themselves.

Jennifer Porter :

Growing up in Wollongong provided endless opportunities to be inspired by familiar Illawarra and South Coast environments including the escarpment and local bushwalks, the rock pools and the beautiful beaches. This area is an amazing place to live, work and raise a family. As an artist, I aim to capture the essence of both natural and man-made landmarks in this area. I have enjoyed the easy access to coastal and bushland settings, regularly accessing the Blue Mile, National Parks and local bushwalking tracks. Regular trips to the Southern Highlands and to visit family in the Southern Tablelands, and the journey up and down Macquarie Pass have also been a starting point for many art pieces, focusing on the changing landscape, colours and plant life.

My artwork directly responds to the environment and I use every-day experiences as a starting point. Working from photographs of the locations, or sometimes working from memory (which can be dangerous!), I transfer my interpretation through drawing an outline of what to include. This ms the basis of the artwork, and from here, an intuitive process of adding colour, shapes and line work complete the art, often without a preconceived notion of what the outcome will be. Acrylic paint forms the base coat, with texture and detail added through shape and line. Not focused on perfect recreation of the setting, at times the shapes and colours used will seem dissociated from
their usual form. Viewers are invited for form their own interpretation of the setting.
